Brian Clark is a photographer and an award-winning videographer. As a video journalist and multimedia producer, his work captures the essence of the story wherever he shoots. We are grateful for his volunteer of time and expertise to document this pioneering outreach mission – focusing on HELPING BABIES BREATHE training curriculum in Rivers State, Nigeria

His words:

 “I came to Port Harcourt, Nigeria to document the mission to help babies breath through video and still photography.  Therefore, to get good visuals I spent a lot of time watching people.  The looks I caught of so many doctors, nurses and midwives were expressions of joy.  Yes, literally joy as they came to understand the methods being taught to them.  One woman looked as if she had won the lottery as she was told she scored perfect on her test.

The locals chosen to train others wore a veil of pride on their faces as they taught fellow Nigerians. So, it was pretty easy to do my job here. The story of this mission’s success was written on so many faces of the 150+ that were trained here.

Last training day: government dignitaries and the First Lady (center) stand with Physicians for Peace and Dr. Emejuru after the last training session.As I write this the team awaits a flight back to the Capital of Nigeria, Abuja, and then tomorrow back home. There are so many here I wish to thank. Countless locals helped organize this trip.  Many thanks to the first lady of Rivers State, Her Excellency Judith Amaechi, whose help from her local NGO; ESI (Empowerment Support Initiative) was a critical component in this entire endeavor.  Most of all, to my new friend, Dr. Emejuru.  His phone never stopped ringing as he arranged transport, hotel rooms and weaved through the maze that can be Nigerian culture. Yet, he always had a smile and a boisterous laugh to share with me.
